Book Summary:

The Children of the New Forest by Frederick Marryat is a historical adventure novel set during the English Civil War in the 1640s.

The story follows four orphaned children from a Royalist family who are forced to flee after their father dies fighting for King Charles I. Hidden away in the New Forest of southern England, they learn to survive through hunting, hardship, and life in the wilderness while navigating the dangers of war and political conflict around them.

It became a classic Victorian children’s novel because it combines adventure, loyalty, survival, and coming-of-age themes with romanticized English countryside settings.
