Antique French Thuya Burl Jewelry Box with Monogrammed Linen Lining
A warm, glowing burl box with a beautifully finished interior. The exterior is veneered in figured thuya burl in deep amber and chestnut tones, with a slightly domed lid, a fine brass stringing line around the lid and base, and neat bracket feet at the corners. The key is present with a cream silk tassel.
Inside, the lid and base are lined in natural linen printed with a large interlaced script monogram and finished with a row of small brass studs, a quietly chic treatment that gives the box the feel of a tailored dressing case. The lining is sympathetic to the box but may be a later addition.
It is a very usable size for jewelry, watches, letters or keepsakes, and the restrained form sits comfortably on a dresser, a desk or a bedside table.
